FAQ

DELIVERY | PAYMENTS | ORDER CONFIRMATIONS | PERSONAL INFORMATION | DOG TAGS

DELIVERY

Sarg, how long does it take to receive an order of dog tags?

That would depend on where you live. Once we receive your payment, your dog tags are produced immediately–usually within 24 hours. The tags are shipped by US Mail. Our company is located in California, United States. So the average number of days for a shipment to New York is approximately 7-10 days. If the shipment is going to a California destination then the delivery time is approximately 3-5 days.

Sarg, I mailed in my payment and it has been 7 days, where are my dog tags?

Remember, it will take additional time for us to receive your payment if you are sending the payment through the mail. Please allow 7 days for your payment to reach our offices in California and then another 7 days for you to receive your order back through the mail. Payments by personal check are subject to an additional 7 day hold as well.

PAYMENTS

Sarg, what currency is used for prices on this web site?

All prices are stated in US Dollars. Payment is accepted only in US Dollars.

Sarg, can I pay with cash?

We accept cash as a valid form of payment. Unfortunately, if the cash is lost or stolen in the delivery process you will be unable to make a claim. Cash does not give you any form of receipt if the payment is lost. We do not honor claims that payments were lost in transit unless you can provide a cancelled check, money order receipt, or credit card receipt.

Sarg, which credit cards do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover/Novus, and American Express.

Sarg, can I order through the Internet, and send in a check or money order?

Yes, in fact I encourage you to do so. When you order on the secured web page, check the box labeled “Personal Check or Money Order”. You will receive an “Order Confirmation” which can be included with your mailed in payment, though it is not required.

Sarg, I do not live in California, do I have to include sales tax?

Currently the law still stands that internet purchases made outside of your state of residence are not taxed. Only shipments made to California addresses must include sales tax. See our “Shipping” link to find the current rate of sales tax. If you order over the internet, look for the sales tax amount in your “Order Confirmation”.

Sarg, where do I mail in payments made by check or money order?

Mail payments to us at:
Armydogtags.com
P.O. Box 5871
Fullerton CA 92838
United States

ORDER CONFIRMATIONS

Sarg, I placed my order through the internet, do I get some kind of receipt?

Yes, once you have input your dog tag information to the secured web page and have submitted it, then a page will come up with the information you put in. You can still make changes to it by clicking the “BACK” button on your browser. Once you are satisfied with the order, please print it out and keep it for your records. This is your “Order Confirmation”.

Sarg, I want to check on my order, what should I do?

You can call us at 1-800-364-8360 or e-mail us at: sarg@armydogtags.com

Sarg, I have an "Order Confirmation", however when will my dog tags be shipped?

There should be a line about half way down the “Order Confirmation” that gives a date when your tags will be shipped. This information is correct. Your order will be shipped on that day unless we send you a e-mail asking for more information or a clarification of your order.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Sarg, why do I have to include my e-mail address with my order? Can't you read my computer for that information in the form of cookies?

No! We respect your right to privacy and will not use any information to contact you unless you have provided it.

Sarg, once I order with your company will my name be "sold" to mail and phone solicitors?

No, we do not sell any customer’s information that we receive from orders or catalog requests. We usually mail our own catalog once a year to our customer list but that’s it. In turn we ask that our company information is not included in any mass solicitations as well. Solicitors by phone and/or internet are asked that our company’s name and phone number be removed from their lists.

DOG TAGS

Sarg, what do you stamp on the dog tags?

You can have anything you want stamped on the dog tags–it’s up to you. You can have your tags stamped just like the military with last name, first name, social security number, blood type, and religion. Please see our dog tag formats by clicking “Current Issue” or “Notched WWII Style”. However, you can personalize the text to include your birth date, code name, address, phone number, etc.

Sarg, why are there two dog tags in the complete set?

Two dog tags are issued to each soldier. In the unfortunate case that a soldier is killed in combat, one tag would stay with the body and the other tag would go with a scout and eventually to the next of kin.

Sarg, can I have different things stamped on each tag?

Yes, once you have decided which type of dog tags you would like (Current Issue dog tags, Gift dog tags, WWII dog tags, etc.), fill out the text information for the dog tags. Click “Add to Cart”. Then a screen will appear that says “Text for Tag #2”. Automatically, the text for Tag #1 will appear. You can either keep the text or you can change the text at that time.

Sarg, how many lines and letters are available for each tag?

Each tag has 5 lines. Each line can have up to 18 characters (including spaces). In order that the text is not covered by the silencers we suggest limiting the count to 15-17 characters per line. If you have 18 on a line, some part of the text will be covered by the silencer.

Sarg, can you stamp capital letters and small letters?

We only stamp in capital letters. The military only stamps in capital letters as well.

Sarg, what are silencers?

Silencers are the rubber edge guards that are placed around each dog tag in order to keep them “silent” during combat.

Sarg, are silencers removable?

Yes, just take the tags off the chains and pull the silencers off. No special tools are needed.

Sarg, what color of silencers does the military use?

The military uses black silencers. Most people prefer black silencers as well. However, you can have different color silencers. We have black, bright blue, navy, bright green, olive green, yellow, red, pink, woodland camo, and desert camo silencers. To see a picture of silencers in different colors, go to our “Accessories” page–silencers are pictured at the bottom of that page.

Sarg, I ordered silencers separately and they are circular in shape. Dog tags are rectangular. These won't fit. What should I do?

Fortunately rubber is very flexible. Though it looks like “a circle will not fit into a rectangular shape” it does. It fits great. Try it out.

Sarg, will black tags chip?

Black tags are traditional stainless steel dog tags painted with a very high quality paint. The paint is applied in such a way that it will stay on during normal use. Occasionally, the black paint will chip. Chipping can even occur during the stamping process. To see a picture of black dog tags, go to our “Colorful Tags” page.

Sarg, what color of dog tags does the military use?

The military uses Traditional Stainless Steel dog tags. However, some branches of the military, like Navy Seals, use the black, commando style, dog tags.

Sarg, will Brass dog tags tarnish?

Yes, however, you can use a Brass polish, like Brasso, to clean the dog tags. To see a picture of brass dog tags, go to our “Colorful Tags” page.

Sarg, what is the difference between stamping and engraving? Aren't they the same thing?

The two processes are entirely different. Engraving merely scratches the surface to create text. Stamping actually changes the shape of the metal into the character just like the text on a credit card. In the stamping process, each letter must have its own die and thus the size and font of each letter is not easily changed. Authentic military dog tags are stamped. Stamped text can be either Emboss or Indent.

Sarg, what is the difference between Emboss or Indent?

Both are done through a stamping process and can not be produced by engraving. Emboss means the letters are raised from the surface–similar to the text on the front of credit cards. Indent, on the other hand, means the letters are pressed downward and could hold water. To see a picture of Emboss and Indent text, please look for the “See Text Type options” popup on any of the tag option pages.

Sarg, what does the military use--Emboss or Indent?

The US military used only Indent from WWII until 1980 when Emboss was first introduced. Now, the military uses both type about 50% for Indent and 50% for Emboss. It basically just depends on what machinery is available.

Sarg, which one is better--Emboss or Indent?

That is entirely personal preference. Emboss is easier to read because it is raised and creates better depth perception for the letters. Indent, on the other hand, is more commonly associated with authentic military dog tags just because it has been in use so much longer than Emboss.

Spacing

Sometimes, it is hard to see on the computer screen exactly how the text will look when the dog tags are stamped. 5 blank spaces between elements can be shown on the screen as 1 space and sometimes as multiple spaces.

If you select: “Exact number of spaces” this means if you put 5 blank spaces in the text after let’s say after a name, then we will put 5 spaces on the dog tags despite how it appears on your screen.

If you select: “Stamp text according to the format for the era” we are assuming you do not have an original dog tag and that we will format the text appropriate to the time period.

If you have an original dog tag, you can send it to us and we will figure out the spacing. See options below for uploading a picture.

Silencer Color

What is darkened text?
Indent text, because it is stamped downward, has a tendency, over time, to gather dirt within the letters. This makes the letters easier to read. If you would like, we can add black color to the letters for an additional $5.00 USD.

Rolled Front vs Rolled Back
rolled to frontRolled Edge to Front (the rolled edge can be seen when reading the text) is how we usually stamp Current Issue dog tags.
rolled to backWWII and Korea era dog tags were stamped with the rolled edge to the back (the rolled edge can not be seen when reading the text).

Rolled Edge to the Front or Rolled Edge to the Back—neither is better than the other; it’s simply your preference.
